The site was first excavated in 1926 by Jesse Walter Fewkes. It was in 1978 that archaeologists started using the Elden Pueblo as a site for teaching. They teach hands-on mapping, excavation, laboratory, and analytical experiences for participants. This is all done under professional supervision of archaeologists. Custom programs are also offered to people. In these photos you can see where walls were re-mortared and re-enforced. These efforts are used to stabilize the site so that people can return to the sites and learn about them. In these photos, you will be able to see where litter lays within the Pueblo walls. They number the pueblo features with these metal cow signs. The vegetation in the pueblo made it hard to distinguish where walls are. It is both maintained to allow people to learn but also left to have nature take over. It also likely has trash just due to it being in Flagstaff and how close it is to the city center, unlike the other site I visited.
