Walnut Canyon

This is a site I had also visited myself. There are two trails, one around the rim with a few features, one being a pit house; the second trail is into the canyon. The is a one mile loop trail at the bottom of the canyon that gives you access to 25 cliff dwellings. The site isn’t accessible due to it being in the Canyon and the stairs being steep as it descends 185 feet into the canyon. When going to the stairs they had signs warning about how the climb down may be easy, but going back is not. One sign right before the stairs warned “Going down is optional but coming back up is required. It is estimated that it has been more than 700 years since Walnut Canyon was occupied by the Sinagua. When going along the trail, there are signs with descriptions of the restoration process. This was by far the busiest site I went to, to the point where I struggled to find parking. In these photos you can see the features from on the rim to the cliff dwellings. You should also look at the landscape of the canyon. There you can see where the Island Trail is. The rocks nearest the dwellings were more loose, you could see where people had walked into some of the dwellings. I was much cooler in the canyon than at the rim of the canyon which I missed on my climb back up.
